After over a decade, it was time for a thorough revision of the reference manual on the usefulness of measurement and control processes. To achieve better practical applicability of the standard and enhance user understanding of the methodology, the focus was on creating the third edition of the VDA 5 volume, with a new title: „Measurement and Control Processes, Utility, Planning, and Management.” VDA Volume 5 has been completely revised by VDA QMC and updated with guidance on the changes introduced since the 2011 edition. Current changes in standards and technological advancements have been incorporated in this edition (…)
The third edition has added the following aspects:
The methods of calculating measurement uncertainty have largely remained unchanged, except for adjustments to indicators and linearity calculations. Calculations have been supplemented with small tolerances, one-sided tolerances, and attribute calculation procedures.
[…] A comparison of the titles of old and new chapters of the requirements of the EN ISO 9001 standard indicates significant differences in the handling of monitoring and measurement resources. Previously, the focus was solely on „oversight of monitoring and measuring equipment,” but since 2015, ISO 9001 refers to „resources for monitoring and measurement.” This clearly shows that it is not just about monitoring and measuring equipment but all necessary resources, from spatial conditions to appropriately trained personnel, suitable control measures, measurement equipment with software, to necessary aids and methods that impact the attainment of important and reliable monitoring and measurement results. All of this must correspond to the purpose of product and service conformity, ensuring that only guaranteed quality is delivered to the customer.
